Mr. Boeve's Classes
Dear Marshall Academy Families,
I am excited to start a brand new year with your students. Though I am new to Marshall Academy, I have taught high school history, government, and economics for the past four years at a small school in Southwest Michigan. I look forward to working with your students and a great year at Marshall Academy.
The following is a short outline of each class. Additional information will be in the course syllabus which will be going home on Wednesday, September 8.
8th Grade History (3rd Hour)
In 8th grade history we will be studying the history and geography of the United States from pre-Columbus to approximately 1900. This covers eras one through six of the Michigan Grade Level Expectations (GLCEs) for 8th grade. We will be guided by the Calhoun ISD 8th grade history curriculum. There is currently no textbook for the students, but there will be many supplementary materials. Since there is currently no textbook, students will be expected to take notes in class and should have their own three ring binder or spiral notebook for Thursday, September 9. In addition, I will be giving each student a spiral notebook (journal) for all writings that we complete in class or for homework. This journal will be a good way to track student writing and progress throughout the year.
American History (4th Hour)
In American History we will be studying American History from the build up of the Civil War through the present day. We will be starting in chapter 12 of our history textbook and will be supplementing with two novels (one each semester) to gain a deeper understanding of American History. Students should get their own three ring binder or spiral notebook for note taking in this class by Thursday, September 9. In addition, I will be giving each student a spiral notebook (journal) for all writings that we complete in class or for homework. This journal will be a good way to track student writing and progress throughout the year.
Government and Economics (6th Hour)
The first semester of this class will be the government portion and second semester will be the economics portion of the class. Students should get their own three ring binder or spiral notebook for note taking in this class by Thursday, September 9. In addition, I will be giving each student a spiral notebook (journal) for all writings that we complete in class or for homework. A portion of this class will be weekly current events due every Friday (starting in week three). This journal will be a good way to track student writing and progress throughout the year.
